GWEN WATSON 1921-1994 CERAMICIST
Gwen Watson was was born in Perth in 1921 & was a pioneer of studio ceramics in Australia. She is remembered as one of Australia's most important and influential ceramicists.
Gwen studied at the Perth Technical College, later attending the National Art School in Sydney. Watson then travelled to London where she studied ceramics at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. On her return to Australia, she established her own studio in Sydney where she worked for several years before moving to Melbourne.
Watson's work was exhibited throughout Australia and internationally. Amongst her many honours, she was awarded the Order of Australia for her services to art in 1981.
Gwen Watson passed away in 1994.
Represented: National Gallery of Australia, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
