Born in 1930, Ewald was the third son of Australia artist Albert Namatjira. He was taught by his father and mentored by Rex Batterbee. Ewald started painting in 1947 and his works are represented in National Gallery of of Australia, The Art Gallery of South Australia as well as other major public galleries.
