BRAVE DODO, THE HERITAGE COLLECTION, HEINAN DELFTS BLAUW, 30cm

A Delft blue dodo made of ceramic. The decorative statue is adorned with a dodo pattern, depicting the dodo staring hopefully ahead between the branches of its tropical island home, Mauritius. This cheerful bird traveled the world as a curiosity on 17th-century trading ships. Artist Pepijn van den Nieuwendijk has breathed new life into this peculiar bird in the form of De Blauwe Dodo (The Blue Dodo). In his eyes, it is a time traveler, an adventurous loner traveling around the world. Father Jaap and son Jorrit Heinen are also a bit like unusual birds in the world of ceramics, taking the world by storm in their own unique way. With great passion and a rebellious spirit, they make traditional Delft blue, but in a modern guise, so that this special craft does not die out but remains alive for future generations.
